Art Fever Flooding Homes of the Wealthy

With each passing day and week of the Art Treasures Exhibition, more and more families are clamoring for a chance to own a piece of famous art. Many of the pieces in the exhibition are on loan from household collections, and with each name card placed beside a masterpiece, local families seem determined to make purchases of their own.

Local art dealers are taking advantage of the increased market for fine art, proffering their expertise in selling and buying. This reporter sought an interview with a Manchester native who runs a successful gallery, much of the work therein being on display at the ATE for the summer. The gallerist assures the Herald-Tribune that the buying and selling of masterpieces, while uncommon, does happen in these modern times, but offers this advice: anyone interested in making a sizeable cash outlay in exchange for a work of art ought to seek the advice of a solicitor. When pressed, the gallerist supposed that there might be an unseemly element within the city intent on taking advantage of overly trusting buyers.

Before you buy, request provenance.

This reporter would surely be horrified to discover a counterfeit masterpiece hanging on a wall during a morning visit to one of the city’s nonpareil families. As you fill your home with artworks, Buyers, beware!
